Capsule Geology

The Tel area is underlain by volcanics and volcaniclastics of the Lower Jurassic Hazelton Group, Telkwa Formation. On the property, an andesitic to dacitic crystal-lithic tuff is predominant. In the southwest portion of the property a Jurassic Topley Intrusion of calcalkaline composition is present. Quartz-feldspar porphyry dikes and later lamprophyric dikes are also present.

Minor copper mineralization is commonly associated with the lamprophyric dikes. Numerous fault zones as well as the dikes generally trend north to north-northwest. The main copper-silver mineralization is restricted to narrow, calcified and silicified shear and fault zones. Mineralization consists of chalcopyrite, chalcocite, bornite, malachite, covellite and pyrite in a quartz and calcite gangue. Sampling of 14 widely spaced trenches over 270 metres gave a weighted average of 0.16 per cent copper and 8.2 grams per tonne silver; in 1981, a 20 meter wide chip sample from the Main Shear zone assayed 4.8 per cent copper and 570 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Reports 10444, 10892). Despite extensive rock-chip sampling, no comparable values were obtained in 1982.

The property was originally explored by Phelps Dodge Corporation of Canada Limited as the Telkwa River Copper property (1965 to 1967). Exploration work consisted of geological mapping, stream silt sampling and reconnaissance diamond drilling. Tyee Lake Resources Limited conducted reconnaissance soil sampling in 1972. Four areas of copper mineralization were known at this time. The first, Area 1, was located on the north side of the river canyon and along the river. Copper sulphides occur in pyritized pyroclastic rock with quartz-chalcopyrite stringers. A second area, Area 2, containing 300 metres of nearly continuously copper-stained and leached chalcopyrite in pyritized tuff is located 600 metres to the north of Area 1. Trenching of this area returned assays of 0.48 per cent copper over 21 metres and 0.56 per cent copper over 16.5 metres. The average of all trench samples was 0.33 per cent copper. Locally pyritized dacitic tuffs, of Area 3, are located on the peak of Mount Janssens. These are seen over a length of 75 metres and a trench on the showing returned 0.41 per cent copper over 6 metres. Area 4 is located 600 metres southeast of Area 1 and consists of a large cupriferous gossan astride the Telkwa River canyon (Property File Cyprus Anvil Tyee Lake Resources Ltd., 1972).

WORK HISTORY

The "A" group of 90 claims was held during 1965-1967 by Phelps Dodge Corporation of Canada, Limited. Work during 1965 and 1966 included geological mapping, trenching, and 2,453 feet of diamond drilling in 4 holes. In 1967 a geochemical survey, and 103 feet of packsack diamond drilling in 8 holes was carried out.

The ground was restaked in February 1971 by Tyee Lake Resources Ltd. as the TEL 1-72 claims; all but 20 claims (TEL 29-38 and 51-60) were allowed to lapse. A geochemical soil survey carried out in 1972 indicated two anomalous zones. General prospecting was reported on the property in 1973. The claims were allowed to lapse in March 1974.

In 1981 and 1982 the property was acquired by Riocanex Inc. who completed a program of geological mapping, geochemical soil sampling, trenching and rock chip sampling.

The property lay dormant until acquired by Mr. Ron Bilquist in 2007. Mr. Bilquist completed programs of prospecting and rock chip sampling in 2008 and geology with rock chip samples in 2009.

In 2008 and 2009, Ron Bilquist relocated the "Upper Camp" zone as well as one old drill pad and two stacks of drillcore boxes with most in useful shape. Samples TKRBOO21 to 0026 were taken here with the samples variably displaying malachite spots on fracture planes and occasional chalcopyrite and pyrite. Tiny quartz veinlets were noted in a couple of samples and four of the samples displayed weak to strong magnetics. The rock appears to be a strongly fractured and possibly sheared volcanic (tuff?). The shear zone was reported to have an unmeasured estimate of at least two to three hundred meters width and possibly wider with a north-northwest trend. The area of the Main Shear was sampled by Bilquist in 2009 as the "DD" exam area.
